Bang n’ Blues Weekend is almost upon us! Are you ready for one of the biggest parties of the summer? Since last year was such a major success, we’re thrilled to be hosting the live music and BBQ festival right here at Lindy’s for a second year.
Not only does Bang n’ Blues commemorate 35 years since providing a filming location many scenes in the iconic Blues Brothers film, but also its own 50 year anniversary.
The weekend festivities begin this Friday, July 17th at 7:00pm with Chicago Blues Hall of Fame Master Artist, Liz Mandeville. Not only can Liz sing, but she also is an award-winning guitar player and maybe even more famous for her washboard playing.
On Saturday, July 18th, Wauconda’s own, Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners take the stage at 2:00pm. This Chicago blues band is well known locally, but also represented the great city of Chicago at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis where they competed against the top Blues musicians throughout the world and were one of the top finalists amongst hundreds of worldwide blues bands. It is a special treat and an honor to have them returning to the Lindy’s stage.
Saturday evening, back by popular demand, The Bluz Brothers Band will perform from 7pm-11pm. This eight-piece band is Chicago’s premier tribute to Jake and Elwood. These guys can put on a show! They can sing, they can dance, and the musicians are outstanding. You will be singing and dancing along in no time!
We kick things off early on Sunday morning with a very special Gospel Brunch. Join us from 10:00am to 1:00pm for a great spread of southern favorites, including:
- Country Fried Chicken on Waffles
- Homemade Biscuits and Gravy
- Slow Stewed Collard Greens
- Chocolate Bread Pudding French Toast
- Andouille Sausage and Sweet Pepper Frittata
- Made-to-order Omelet Station
- Carving Station
- Dessert Table
Brunch will be served on our beach deck overlooking the stage. The brunch is $18 for Adults and $9 for children 12 and under. Kids under 3 are free. Reservations are suggested. Lindy’s regular menu will also be available.
Accompanying our delicious brunch is one of Lindy’s favorite blues bands, Peaches and the Groove Shakers, who take the stage at 11:00am. The band, fronted by acclaimed blues/soul/jazz singer Peaches Staten, performed at last year’s Bang ‘n Blues and they had the whole crowd singing and dancing before noon. Peaches Stanton was raised on a steady diet of blues, soul, and gospel – so who better to be our brunch entertainment? She also likes to have guests from crowd come on stage to play the washboard with her. Trust us, it isn’t as easy as it looks.
The last performance of the weekend is by blues cover band, Delta
Pines. They have a passion for blues and have a vast knowledge of Chicago Blues and Blues styles from around the country that include harmonica and piano. Their playlist includes songs from great blues legends Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton and many, many more. They will be on the stage from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Sunday to close out the Bang n’ Blues weekend.
Admission for this event is $5, which gets you a wristband that gives you access to Bang n Blues for all 3 days. Proceeds from Bang n Blues goes to the Bangs Lake Advisory Committee, which oversees and protects beautiful Bangs Lake.
We’ll see you all on the beach this weekend. Here’s to Bang n’ Blues, round two!
