Lindy’s Landing Celebrates 50 Years

The family-owned Lindy’s Landing in Wauconda is celebrating their 50th year in business.

Joining Lindy’s Landing in turning 50 this year are Robert Downey Jr, Chris Rock, Sarah Jessica Parker, ‘The Sound of Music,’ the Voting Rights Act, the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Grateful Dead’s inception and exit in the music business and so many more.

Lindy’s has been a staple in Lake County for half a century. The Landing is a restaurant and sports bar located on Bang’s Lake and equipped with two outdoor door decks and a beach area.

The story begins with Bob ‘Lindy’ Lindstrom, a Chicagoan that had a passion in boating. After taking his family to and from Wauconda frequently, Lindy sought to fulfill his dream turning a Farman’s old boathouse in to Lindy’s Landing in 1965. The building was originally built in 1908 and was equipped with a small bar, candy counter and two pinball machines.

In the beginning, Lindy’s Landing was a seasonal business open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. However business boomed, and changes came, i.e. new food, more tables, and more barstools.

Back then, the menu was only burgers, hot dogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Lindy also provided a boat launch as well and bar/restaurant continued to thrive even up until his death in 2000.

IN 2003, Lindy’s daughters Laurie, Cheryl and Bonnie (who were also the co-heads of the kitchen), decided to give the old barn a facelift with a remodel.

Lindy’s is now known for a prime location, burgers, and fish fry, as well as providing a live music lineup. Annual events were added to their schedule like Fireworks over the Bangs and the Cardboard Boat Regatta.

Some of the popular eats at Lindy’s include Bangs BYO Burger, Baja Fish Tacos, salads and other delicious entrees.
